Methanol production

Methanol is one of the most important chemical raw materials. It is formed from carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen. The source of carbon oxides and hydrogen originate from hydrocarbon feedstock such as natural gas, LPG, naphtha, residual oils, coal and off-gases. These hydrocarbon feed-stocks can be processed by steam reforming, partial oxidation (PO), and gasification. Modern methanol plant using natural gas, LPG or naphtha as feedstock and most of the worldwide methanol production is based on synthesis gas generated from steam reforming. The process consist of feedstock purification, purified feedstock reforming (may consist of pre-reforming, steam reforming and auto-thermal reforming), and methanol synthesis. Süd-Chemie supplies all catalysts for these requirements.
